FIRST REFORMED UCC OPEN & AFFIRMING COVENANT

"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." (John 13:34)

We, First Reformed United Church of Christ in Burlington, North Carolina, are an Open and Affirming (ONA) church, guided by Christ’s example of extravagant welcome and love, and believing that each of us is created in God’s image.

We celebrate everyone, including people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, or family configurations. All are welcome to participate fully in the life, leadership, ministry and mission of this church.

We commit ourselves to the ongoing work of being an ONA congregation, as we strive to demonstrate in all ways that “no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!”

What Does ONA Look Like?

Our church spent over a year praying, learning, listening, and discussing.
On Palm Sunday 2025, we voted unanimously to adopt our Open and Affirming Covenant.
We celebrated our new status with a special worship service,
and we're proud to share this status with our community.
